Classical Reimagining / Time2024—

Syntax of the Eternal

The classical canon overheard from a far room. Timelessness as method.

Syntax of the Eternal

Manifesto — On Syntax of the Eternal

Syntax of the Eternal listens to the classical tradition the way one might listen to a cathedral choir from the wrong side of the wall.

The project takes small fragments — a Bach chorale, a phrase from Pärt, a single voice from a Renaissance polyphony — and stretches them, slows them, lets them resolve over forty minutes instead of forty seconds. Nothing is added. Nothing is improvised. The intervention is patience.

What emerges is a kind of secular sacred music — the canon translated into a tempo the nervous system can actually metabolise. The eternal, the project proposes, is not what lasts forever. It is what we are finally slow enough to hear.

It is the project closest to liturgy, and the most agnostic.

The eternal is not what lasts. It is what we are finally slow enough to hear.

Press Description

Syntax of the Eternal is a long-form composition project that reimagines fragments of the classical canon — Bach, Pärt, Renaissance polyphony — at radically slowed tempi. The work proposes timelessness as a method rather than a subject, and operates in the space between drone, contemporary classical and sacred music.
